🐾 Maya’s Solo Adventure 🐾

Today was all about Maya.


This beautiful girl is one of the bravest dogs I know. Not because she’s fearless, but because every step she takes is despite her fears.


Until recently, Maya wouldn’t venture past the front door. The world outside was simply too overwhelming. New sights, sounds, people, and experiences were all incredibly daunting for her.


Maya isn’t motivated by treats like many dogs. Instead, she responds to patience, reassurance, affection, and knowing she is safe. So that’s exactly what we give her.


Today’s walk was taken at Maya’s pace. Plenty of stops, lots of encouragement, and absolutely no pressure. The best part? She has started reading the doggy newspapers! 🐕📰


For those unfamiliar with the term, that’s all the wonderful sniffing dogs do when they’re exploring the world and gathering information. Every sniff is a little confidence boost and another step towards feeling comfortable in her surroundings.


Seeing her choose to investigate, sniff, and engage with the world is a huge milestone. Progress isn’t always measured in miles covered or how fast we go. Sometimes it’s measured in a nervous dog stopping to sniff a hedge and deciding the world isn’t quite so scary after all.
